Donations to Century-Old School

It was a dreary afternoon when Sudhir received a request letter from the Government Higher Primary School in Nandikoor, Udupi. The letter stated that the school was in dire need of adequate kitchen vessels for cooking, a mixer grinder, a water purifier, and a few steel buckets as a part of their free mid-day meal initiative. With the school's strength at 169, it was an urgent requirement that needed immediate attention.

Ventana Foundation has always been passionate about promoting rural education and fostering the growth of rural schools. The scarcity of basic infrastructure facilities in a school was one of the major challenges in achieving this goal. And so, driven by this primary objective, the foundation decided to donate the much-needed kitchen utensils and water purifiers to the Nandikoor School.

The school was almost on the verge of closure a few years back. It is a century-old school with a rich history and culture. The alumni of the school got together to form a Trust and helped build the new school building on a donated property of an old student. It was a tremendous effort from multiple old students to reach and achieve this milestone – many of these students were based in Mumbai and generously supported the cause. With rebuilding and good infrastructure, the school was now a good example of how with the efforts of like-minded people things can be turned around for a good cause.

When Sudhir and Ravindra K inspected the school in January 2023, they were pleasantly surprised. The school was well-maintained and had a good strength of 169 students. In order to ensure the school continued to do well, they had to opt for English-medium too, but remain focused on the Kannada language. The school provided free mid-day meals to the students, which was freshly prepared – but the lack of adequate kitchen utensils and a water purifier was a major hurdle.

Post this inspection, the Ventana Foundation team decided to take immediate action. They placed an order for a water purifier and kitchen utensils for the school with Kalkura Refrigerators. The vendor executed the order in just 15 days, and the materials were delivered in the first week of February 2023.

The day of the donation event was finally here. Aneesh Achar and Ravindra K attended the event as representatives of Ventana Foundation. The event was organized by the school, and the excitement among the students was palpable. They had never seen so many new things at once! Aneesh took to the stage to make the attendees aware of the primary objective and mission of Ventana Foundation, which includes promoting rural education by providing basic infrastructure facilities to schools, conservation of nature, and preservation of culture by supporting and encouraging ancient art forms and artists.

The students and staff of the school were overwhelmed with gratitude. They couldn't believe that their school had received such a generous donation from Ventana Foundation. The kitchen utensils and other equipment were handed over to the school, and the event concluded with VF team distributing sweets to the children. The sweets were freshly prepared in the school kitchen itself, which was now well-equipped to handle the mid-day meal initiative.

As Sudhir reflected on the day's events, he felt a sense of satisfaction. Ventana Foundation's contribution had made a real difference in the lives of the students and staff of Nandikoor School.
