As Ventana Foundation continues to work towards its mission of empowering communities through education, it recently had the opportunity to support a Gurukula school in Koteshwara. The school, named Poorva Gurukula, had been providing free education to children in the region for over two decades. However, the school needed some modern infrastructure to help the older students transition better once they began pursuing mainstream higher studies.
When Mr. Sudhir from the Ventana Foundation visited the school, he was impressed by the discipline, cleanliness, and timeliness of the school. He also noticed that the students were keen to learn and had a great attitude towards education. The school follows the ancient Gurukula system of education, where the guru-shishya tradition is a sacred one. The method of teaching promotes self-discipline among the students, and the school also provides free meals and medical aid to its students. The classrooms are named after ancient Hindu sages, such as Upamanyu, Shraddha, and Nachiketa.
While the Gurukula system is rooted in ancient traditions, the school staff realized that modernization was necessary to help students adapt to the changing times. They believed that providing proper seating arrangements, such as desks and benches, would be an important step towards this goal to help their students acclimate to the modern education system.
Ventana Foundation recognized the importance of providing this infrastructure to the school and decided to donate 15 sets of desks and benches. The furniture was manufactured by an identified carpenter, and the handover ceremony was held on February 16, 2023. The entire school staff and students were thrilled to see the new shiny benches, and the event was graced by Gururaja Bhat and Ravindra K from the Ventana Foundation.
Gururaja Bhat provided a brief insight into the working of the Ventana Foundation and affirmed that the foundation is proud to be a part of helping such a noble institution. He appreciated the learning environment and the method of teaching in the school and praised the determination and generous attitude of Rohith Bhat, Founder and Chairman of Ventana Foundation
The school staff extended their heartfelt gratitude for this priceless contribution, and the event concluded with Ventana Foundation distributing sweets to the children. The students recited Sanskrit shlokas, which were musical to the ears, and the VF team appreciated the efforts of the school to maintain the culture and tradition of the region.
The donation of desks and benches was a small step towards modernization, but it had a significant impact on the learning experience of the students.
